The Clinton Minor Sports Association travelled to 100 Mile House to compete in the Bighorn Archery Club's annual Traditional 3D Shoot last weekend.
The sports association, which is dedicated to exposing Clinton youth to different sporting opportunities, brought around 13 kids to the shoot. Archery is one of the many events that the sports association does, according to Melissa Painter, the president of the Clinton Minor Sports Association.
"We wanted to give them an opportunity to step out of the arena and experience something new," Painter said, pointing out the kids who participated were in the intermediate range when it comes to skill.
One of those youth archers was Aubrey Aske, who is a long-time member of the sports association.
"I just think it's fun to shoot 3D," Aske said, adding that she wanted to just have fun shooting arrows.
Archery, as a part of the minor sports association, is usually practiced in the fall and spring in the 47 Mile Sports Complex, with around 25 to 30 kids regularly attending.
"We're just starting to grow and buy more things, more equipment," Painter said.
Brian McGlashan, the current president of the Bighorn Archery Club, said that it is great that the association came up to this year's outdoor shoot.
"We'd love to partner with their up-and-coming archery club and give them any assistance that we can to them. The more the merrier," McGlashan said. He adds that the association had come up last year to the indoor shoot, adding that the association members seemed to enjoy themselves.
Kelly Sinoski, the secretary of the Bighorn Archery Club, agreed it was very exciting to see the association come up to 100 Mile House.
"It's good to have a group and a variety of young people coming up to try those shoots," Sinoski added.
Sinoski said that around 40 people were registered for the shoot, which involves two courses: the traditional shoot course and the hunter's course. The traditional shoot course involves 20 targets that people could shoot at, while the hunter's course is somewhat different.
"You have to kill the target, so you have to hit it - and you get 10 points, and if you miss it, you get minus 10 points," Sinoski explained.
There are numerous replica targets that were set up during the shoot, simulating animals such as bears and raccoons.
McGlashan said that there are also other things besides the two courses that have been offered throughout the outdoor 3D shoot.
"We have some novelty shots where they're just fun shoots - there's one where you're rolling a dice, and it picks what target you shoot for it, and that sort of idea. Everyone's having a great time at it," McGlashan said.
McGlashan hopes everyone who participated in the archery shoot had a great time at the event. He says that those interested in getting involved with the Bighorn Archery Club should come and talk to them. As for the Clinton Minor Sports Association, Painter said that those interested can contact her through Facebook Messenger.
