Courtenay’s Canada Day celebrations in Lewis Park will feature two standout headline acts: Jeff Plankenhorn at the Night Before concert and the Big Easy Funk Ensemble on Canada Day.
The Night Before concert takes place on Monday, June 30, at Lewis Park, running from 4:15 p.m. to around 10 p.m. The evening begins with Indigenous and multicultural performances, followed by The English Brothers at 6:30 p.m., a high-energy duo known for their mix of folk, country and classic rock.
At 8 p.m., acclaimed roots rocker Jeff Plankenhorn takes the stage. Based in Austin, Texas, Plankenhorn is a celebrated singer-songwriter and slide guitar innovator whose sound blends Americana, soul, blues and rock. Known for his magnetic stage presence and distinctive "Plank" guitar — a custom hybrid lap steel — he has shared stages with the likes of Joe Ely and Ray Wylie Hubbard and earned praise for both his songwriting and musicianship.
On Tuesday, July 1, the Lewis Park stage will feature Nathan Senner at 11 a.m., a local singer-songwriter whose acoustic sound and heartfelt lyrics have made him a crowd favourite in the Comox Valley.
From 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., the Big Easy Funk Ensemble will headline the afternoon with a powerful blend of New Orleans-inspired funk, jazz and soul. This nine-piece Vancouver-based band brings the spirit of the Big Easy to the West Coast, performing infectious grooves and horn-driven rhythms that get audiences on their feet. With influences ranging from The Meters to Galactic and Trombone Shorty, their dynamic live shows have made them favourites at festivals and venues across the province.
