The upcoming Spring Showcase, presented by ECHO Youth Theatre, will feature two one-act plays (with a twist) that are sure to be recognized and appreciated by the audience, who will be treated to both short plays at each performance.
In the Brothers' Grimm Spectaculathon the well-known fairy tales by the famous brothers are turned on their heads in this fast-paced and rollicking ride, according to a news release by ECHO Players.
Two narrators and several actors attempt to combine all 209 stories, ranging from classics like Snow White and Cinderella to more bizarre and obscure stories like Faithful Johannes. Expect a wild, free-form comedy with lots of madcap fun.
Directors Ashera Richard and Amelia Groome expressed their excitement and pride in bringing these dynamic productions to life.
“The cast is so fun to work with, and it's great to have new actors joining us this year,” said Groome, noting the dedication and creativity each member brought to the stage.
“This play is so wild. The actors are constantly moving on and off stage, changing characters. We have over 40 costumes for our small cast,” Richard added.
Together, their efforts have transformed these plays into vibrant showcases of talent and storytelling.
Mean Girls, Jr is a fearless musical about chasing popularity and being true to yourself.
This “fetch” musical adapted from the screenplay by Tina Fey (30 Rock), lyricist Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde) and composer Jeff Richmond (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) is packed with sharp humour, catchy and memorable songs and a heartfelt message for everyone.
In this adaptation of the wildly popular film, Cady Heron, who grew up on an African savanna, faces the wild ways of suburban Illinois.
To climb the social ladder, she targets "The Plastics", led by Regina George. Cady's plan involves infiltrating the group, but as she blends in, she struggles to stay true to herself and her real friends.
ECHO Youth Theatre is a youth-operated program under the sponsorship of ECHO Players and the leadership of an adult mentor through which youth are granted the opportunity to experience and learn about all aspects of theatre.
From casting and directing, to stage management and technical aspects, members are given the chance to bring their own productions to the ECHO stage.
The plays run from May 23 to May 25 at the Village Theatre. Tickets are available online at echoplayers.ca or by phone at 250-752-3522.
