Xeni Gwet’in Youth Wagon Trip prepares for 16th annual ride to Stampede

The group will arrive in time for the Williams Lake Stampede

Xeni youth, elders and community members from Xeni Gwet’in will embark on the 16th annual horse and wagon trip from Nemiah Valley Lodge to Williams Lake Stampede from June 21 to June 28, 2024.

The wagon trip group will be departing from Nemiah Valley Lodge on the morning of June 21 up the 900 Road (Taseko Road), over to Big Creek Road (2000 Road) and onto Highway 20 at the Toosey junction and onto Williams Lake.

Team meetings, and events such as farrier clinics all have been planned to ensure that the group has another successful year. There is a Facebook group “Xeni Gwet’in Youth Wagon Trip” that the public can join and follow the planning and see photos posted of the annual trip to Williams Lake Stampede.

Campsites for the eight-day trek:

Night 1: Kilometre 50 on the 900 Taseko Road

Night 2: Kilometre 33 on the 900 Taseko Road

Night 3: Big Creek Camp

Night 4: Big Creek Camp

Night 5: Sugar Cane Jacks Camp kilometre 45 on 2000 Road

Night 6: Farwell Canyon

Night 7: Top of Sheek Creek by Hwy 20

Day 8: Arrive to Williams Lake 520PM in Grand Entry for Fridays Performance at the Williams Lake Stampede

Wagon Masters Roy Mulvahill and Jimmy Lulua have been confirmed. We thank the public in advance for reducing your speed, and not honking your horn as you safely pass the group.
