Wild Game Banquet a success
CADOSA’s Wild Game Banquet took place on Saturday, April 27 at the Clinton Memorial Hall. The event was organized by the Clinton and District Outdoor Sportsmen Association and featured door prizes and live music.
Amongst the many items available was an African Safari that was auctioned off at this year’s banquet. Local Russell Allison returned to Clinton to serve as auctioneer for the sold-out event, which featured a wide selection of wild game for its potluck-style dinner.
Free Disposal Day coming up
The TNRD will host a free Disposal Day on Sunday, May 26 at Clinton’s Eco-Depot, 5 Boyd Pit Road. The free Disposal Day will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and offers residents the perfect excuse to finish up that spring cleaning they may have been putting off.
Each household is allowed to dump one load of material for free on May 26. One load, as defined by the TNRD, means a full “truck box up to 8 foot (full size) or up to [an] 8-foot trailer.” Households should ensure that their garbage loads are secure before leaving home.
Fees will be waived on May 26 for materials such as household garbage, tires, mattresses, wood waste, cooling appliances, concrete, and more. The Bethel Church will also host a Yard Sale on Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 308 Dewdney Avenue.
Mayor Swan promotes Clinton on live radio
On Tuesday, April 9, Mayor Susan Swan had a unique opportunity to be interviewed live by an Australian radio station. The station contacted Mayor Swan a few days prior to her interview to advise that a “Port Clinton” exists in Southern Australia, and that it was named after the same Henry Pelham Clinton as our own little Village.
Mayor Swan described the interview as brief; however, she was able to promote many of Clinton’s best features while on the air, including the Annual Ball and community museum. Swan also extended an invitation for Australian listeners to come visit Clinton, and she extended gratitude to the Australian firefighters who helped our province back in 2017.
CACS hosts AGM and upcoming Art Show
The Clinton Art and Cultural Society hosted its AGM on Sunday, April 14. Nancy McMinn was elected President during the society’s elections, and Jackie Pappas was voted in as Secretary. Joanne O’Flynn is the group’s elected Treasurer.
The society will host a weather-themed Art Show over the August long weekend this year. On August 3 and 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. locals can attend the Art Show in Clinton’s Memorial Hall. Membership for the society costs $10 a year, but April and May are the only months during which membership is open. Individuals aged 18 and under enjoy free membership.
Residents who may wish to join this society can find out more information by calling (250) 459-2976. The group is open to artists of all forms and genres, and the annual Art Show and Sale is a great opportunity for artists to share what they do with the community at large.
