Citizen of the Year: Nominations open
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2018 Clinton Citizen of the Year. The Volunteer Recognition committee is accepting nominations for this award at the Village office until Feb. 28.
The 2018 Citizen of the Year will be announced at the community’s Volunteer Recognition event this spring in Clinton’s Memorial Hall. In 2018, husband and wife Yvette and Andrew May were both named Clinton’s Citizen(s) of the Year for 2017.
The 2019 event will be held on Saturday, March 23, and will take the form of a wine and cheese reception, as it has in the past. The Volunteer Recognition event offers locals an evening out to celebrate the many volunteers who contribute so regularly to the Village.
Doors for the event open at 6:30 p.m on March 23, but the evening officially begins at 7 p.m. Nomination forms are still available at the Village office, and through the Village of Clinton website at https://village.clinton.bc.ca/. Upcoming Community Events
The Clinton and District Outdoor Sportsman Association—or CADOSA—will host its annual Ice Fishing Derby over the Family Day long weekend. On Sunday, Feb. 17 head out to Beaverdam Lake from daylight until noon for a great day of family fun. Everyone is welcome.
CADOSA will be on site to provide hot dogs, smokies, burgers, coffee, and hot chocolate. Entry is $10 per person and all money collected in entry fees will be given back to participants through the awarded prize money. For more information, contact Rolly at (250) 457-0439.
Kindergarten registration is open throughout the month of February at David Stoddart School. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each school day, parents seeking to register their children for Kindergarten in 2019 should bring a copy of their child’s birth certificate and care card to the school.
Monday, Feb. 18 is Family Day, which means there will be no school for DSS students.
Grad Bingo will take place on Valentine’s Day at the school. Join the 2019 DSS graduates on Thursday, Feb. 14 for an evening of fundraising fun. There will be concession options and door prizes, too. Early Bird Bingo begins at 6 p.m., with regular games to follow. The doors for the event open at 5:30 p.m.
A CareFair will take place at David Stoddart School on Thursday, Feb. 21 from noon to 2 p.m. The free event will include lunch, bouncy castles, and more, and is open to families with children up to age 6.
The next DSS PAC meeting is on Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m. The following day—Friday, Feb. 22— is a Professional Development Day, so there will be no school for students. On Feb. 27, Clinton hosts a Lahal Tournament at the school.
Seniors’ Events: Free tax clinic and more
The next regular meeting of the Clinton Seniors’ Association will be on Thursday, Feb. 21 at the Seniors’ Centre, following lunch. Their annual membership fee is just $15; new members are always welcome.
The next Foot Clinic will take place March 7 at the Seniors’ Centre, 217 Smith Avenue. As always, to discuss your foot care needs or book an appointment, contact Colleen Thom at (250) 819-1632.
Mark your calendars: the annual Daffodil Tea is coming up on March 6, 2019, and daffodils will be purchased locally this year through Bubbles Blossom Design.
The tax clinics in Clinton are returning free of charge, as part of the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program, sponsored by the Canada Revenue Agency. The free income tax preparation clinics will be held from March 5 to April 30 at the Clinton Library, 1506 Tingley Street.
The clinics run Tuesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 2 p.m. The objective of the CVITP is to assist individuals who may not be able to prepare their income tax and benefit returns by themselves. Those eligible include seniors, students, and low income individuals and couples.

Recognizing 30 years
Deputy Fire Chief and long-time Clinton resident John Engelhart was recently recognized with a 30-Year Service Award.
Mayor Susan Swan presented Engelhart with his award and a commemorative plaque at the Jan. 30 council meeting, thanking him—on behalf of the community—for his continued dedication and service to the Village.
