Lots of events coming up in Clinton
2019 is here! I hope my readers enjoyed a relaxing holiday season and were able to return to work—or school—feeling refreshed and ready to take on the year ahead.
There are many community events lined up for the Village of Clinton throughout the year, and some of the most exciting ones will take place within the first half of 2019.
Students at David Stoddart School headed back to class on Monday, Jan. 7, and the first council meeting of the year takes place on Wednesday, Jan. 9. The public is welcome to attend all public council meetings, which are held in the council chambers at 1423 Cariboo Highway, Clinton.
Council meeting agendas can be viewed on the Village website (https://village.clinton.bc.ca/), where you’ll also find the minutes from previous meetings. A reminder that the Jan. 23 meeting of council has been moved to Jan. 30 to accommodate a training session that council members will participate in outside Clinton.
The next scheduled meeting for the Spirit of Clinton Committee will be on Thursday, Jan. 10. The 2018 Citizen of the Year nominations will be accepted in January, but the Volunteer Appreciation, or Citizen of the Year, event itself will take place in March.
The January meeting of the Clinton Communities in Bloom Committee was cancelled, but the group will reconvene on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Clinton Library meeting room.
Soccer registration with the South Cariboo Minor Soccer Association typically kicks off at the beginning of February for DSS students, and CADOSA’s annual ice-fishing derby is usually scheduled for the Family Day weekend (which starting this year is the third Monday of February, not the second).
Seedy Sunday is an annual event organized by the members of the Clinton Communities in Bloom Committee, and gives local gardeners a chance to get a head start on the growing season. This event usually happens each April.
The Recreation Commission’s Children’s Easter Egg Hunt will take place in April, and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Legion will also host their Annual Bean Supper that month. The Clinton and District Outdoor Sportsmen’s Association hosts their Game Dinner banquet on April 27 this year.
Heritage Week—and the community’s beloved May Ball weekend—kicks off in May before the Little Britches Rodeo gets started at the beginning of June. Also in June, garden enthusiasts can look forward to the annual Plant and Yard Sale, hosted by Clinton’s Health Care Auxiliary.
There is always something to do in Clinton, so be sure to stay tuned for more details about each of these local events—and more—as they become available.
Pilot program available to Clinton business owners
The Red Cross has developed a pilot program to support local businesses in preparing for critical incidents related to business operations. The Village of Clinton has been selected as one of three communities to be invited to participate in this program, which will guide business owners through the process of developing a customized Emergency Action Plan, or EAP.
The Pilot Program includes three sessions: two in person and one email check-in. The sessions are estimated to be three hours long, and Red Cross representatives are there to guide business owners through plan development. The project seeks to assist interested applicants in taking steps to identify, document, enhance, and test resources and plans so that their businesses can reopen—and stay open—in the face of a potential disaster or personal injury.
The proposed dates for the Red Cross sessions are January 22 and March 12, with the email check-in scheduled for sometime in February. A minimum of 10 participants are required for the program to move forward. If you are interested in participating, please contact Community Development Coordinator Daniela Dyck by email at cdc@village.clinton.bc.ca no later than Jan. 15.
