2018 Christmas Light-Up winners announced
The winners of the Clinton Communities in Bloom Christmas Light-up contest were announced, after the event wrapped up with judging on Dec. 19.
The Residential winner was Cathy Hetu (Station Road). Her lights were visible from all over Clinton and her blue star, in particular, was a highlight for the CiB judges.
The best Commercial winner was awarded to Bubbles’ Blossom Design. Owner Jessica Lawrence was commended for her white lights and almost “Victorian theme,” which the judges deemed very appropriate for the house itself. The business had “great curb appeal” and was attractive from down—and across—the street.
In the Commercial category, the Clinton Liquor Store received a special mention for their creative efforts. Special mentions were also awarded to participants Joel McColl, Amanda Nelson, Margaret Fletcher, Wayne Marchant, Daniela and Wade Dyke, Zig and Tammy Fletcher, and “Slim and Elyse,” who helped brighten the streets of the Hugo subdivision. Judges also congratulated Roland and Bonnie Stanke on their light-up display, which complemented their vintage home.
The CiB judges observed that some neighbourhoods participated more than others. Most of the residents on Fir Avenue turned their lights on for the contest, and so did residents of Lebourdais, Carson, McDonald, Tingley, and Foster. The CiB wishes to thank everyone—including all the businesses and organizations—who helped to light up the Village this Christmas season by participating.
Local employment opportunity
The Village of Clinton’s Public Works Department is seeking a part-time labourer to fill an immediate employment opportunity.
Services required for this position include the provision of public works and parks maintenance, along with arena and snow removal duties. The successful candidate will work 16 hours per week, but may work weekends, with the possibility of additional call-in time from the hiring date through March 2019.
Interested applicants should have their grade 12 diploma or equivalent, along with a Class 5 drivers’ licence, preferably with air. Additional job duties for this position include machinery and equipment operation, digging, municipal maintenance, and repairs. This is a term position that is unionized with an hourly pay rate of $24.60, plus 10 per cent in lieu of benefits.

Loon Lake Fire Hall fundraiser planned for the New Year
Clinton’s neighbours to the south will hold a fundraiser in the New Year to raise money for the rebuild of their new fire hall. The Loon Lake Volunteer Fire Department lost their fire hall to the Elephant Hill Wildfire in 2017, but in 2019 the community will hold a fundraiser to aid their rebuild efforts.
The fundraising event will take the form of an all-ages painting experience on Saturday, Jan. 19 from 1 to 3 p.m. at 1705 Loon Lake Road. Those who attend can expect to paint a snowy mountain masterpiece with the help of a professional artist. Each event ticket includes a 16” x 20” canvas, supplies, instructions, and a donation to the Loon Lake Volunteer Fire Department’s efforts to rebuild their fire hall.
The Loon Lake Community Hall is located north of Cache Creek, just off Highway 97 and 17km up Loon Lake Road. Aprons will be provided, but organizers have asked that painters please wear appropriate clothing, just in case.
