Community Christmas Dinner
Old School’s Grill in Clinton will be hosting a Community Christmas Dinner for Clinton residents on December 25. The event will be by donation and doors will open at 4 p.m. Dinner starts at 5 p.m. and will be served buffet style, complete with turkey, ham, salads, baked goods, and all the fixings.
This is a wonderful community event to share in Christmas cheer and “eat until the food runs out”. The evening will be first come, first served, compliments of Don and Gina.
Council meeting highlights
At the last council meeting of 2018, on Dec. 12, council voted to endorse the appointment of Councillor Christine Rivett as the TNRD alternate for the Village of Clinton. Cllr. Park, who was previously appointed as deputy mayor, was appointed the NDIT alternate for the Village.
Council also approved the 2019 Schedule of Regular Meetings for the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. and the cancellation of two meetings, on Sept. 25 and Dec. 25. The Jan. 23 meeting of council has been moved to Jan. 30 to accommodate a training session that council members will be taking part in outside Clinton.
Councillors reported that the Legion Kids’ Christmas Party was a success, with 79 children in attendance. Thanks to those who helped to make the event happen, bringing joy to plenty of families in the Village.
Council also responded to a request from Clinton’s Annual Ball committee and agreed to write a letter of support for their NDIT funding application. If awarded, the funding would go towards enhancing the annual event with additional décor and a photographer to memorialize the occasion.
All of council voted to approve an interest-free internal loan from the Sewer Fund to the Water Fund of up to $200,000 over a 20-year term.
The Village of Clinton reviews and sets water and sewer rates on rolling three-year terms. Previous water and sewer rates were set in 2015 for the years 2016–2018, and council gave the first and second reading to the “Village Fees and Charges Amendment Bylaw No. 556” on Nov. 14 to address changes to those rates. for the next three years
Council met again on Nov. 20 to discuss the bylaw and rate structure with finance staff. This meeting, according to CAO Monika Schittek, provided a better understanding of the changes to the proposed fee schedule. The Village currently has a high quality water treatment plant, and the Village’s water and sewer service operations are fully supported by user fees and charges.
Third reading of Bylaw No. 556 on Dec. 12 resulted in the following amendments: no increase in 2019 for water and sewer rates, while the rates in 2020 and 2021 will increase by two per cent for water and 1.5 per cent for sewer each year.
