Temporary water shut-off
The Village of Clinton is in the process of replacing the water main that transports water from the treatment plant to the community itself. This project was slated for completion last summer, but due to the wildfires that impacted our community, the project was postponed. Contractors got to work in early May, but the Village also tackled challenging weather and issues with contractor scheduling.
Residents of Clinton have been advised that a water shut-off is planned for this week, and will take place on Wednesday, June 6, beginning at 9 a.m. The water shut-off will take place in order to connect the new water main line. The shut-off will last approximately five to six hours, but could be over sooner if all goes well. The Village apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the shut-off, and advises that any questions regarding the project can be directed to Clinton’s public works foreman, Karl Hansen, at the Village office, 1423 Cariboo Highway.
“Be a Lifesaver” event sees residents of all ages turn out
On Friday, June 1, the BC Emergency Health Services’ “Be a Lifesaver” event was offered in Clinton at the Memorial Hall. The free training program offered hands-only CPR and AED awareness from BCEHS paramedics during a series of free 30-minute sessions.
Sixty-two people attended one of the sessions, which means that 62 more people in the Village of Clinton are now trained in CPR and able to use an AED. The event was attended by people of all ages, from residents in their eighties to school-aged trainees accompanying their parents. Congratulations to all who attended this remarkable training opportunity and gained the potential to “be a lifesaver”.
Plant, Bake, and Yard Sale donates to local Food Bank
The Clinton Health Care Auxiliary’s Plant, Bake, and Yard Sale took place on Saturday, June 2 at the Clinton Memorial Hall and was a great success.
The Auxiliary and the Clinton Food Bank would like to extend their thanks to Mayor Jim Rivett and councillors Wayne Marchant, Susan Swan, and Diana Guerin for their work collecting merchandise and manning the tables at this event. In particular, they would like to say “Thank you” for the money raised in the sale, which was donated to the Food Bank. In total, $679.10 was raised and donated. Way to go, Clinton!
2018 Canada Day celebration in Clinton
Canada Day is less than a month away, and this year Clinton will be celebrating in a big way. The Village has invited all residents of Clinton, 70 Mile House, Loon Lake, and TNRD area “E” to join together for a Canada Day celebration in Reg Conn Park on Sunday, July 1.
Canada Day celebrations in the park will begin at 11 a.m. with the opening ceremony and raising of the flag by members of Legion Branch #194 and the local RCMP. The mayor will also give a welcome speech, which will be followed by free lunch and the cutting and serving of the Canada Day cake by 2017 Citizens of the Year Andy and Yvette May.
After the opening ceremonies, residents are welcome to stick around to enjoy bouncy castles, a dunk tank, and a water wall hosted by the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department. CADOSA will also be putting on the Kids’ Fishing Derby, and the day will also feature musical entertainment. For those with a talent for cooking or baking, you might want to consider entering the Canada Day chili and pie competition.
There will also be face painting on site for children, and the Seniors’ Association yard sale will be running. Canada Day 2018 will be a fun-filled, family friendly event for all members of the community, so be sure to stop by Reg Conn Park on July 1 to celebrate Canada’s birthday! Clinton’s Canada Day 2018 event is funded by the Government of Canada through the Department of Canadian Heritage and by the Village of Clinton.
Sponsorships available for Kids Rock Camp
Kids Rock Camp has received a generous donation from a few kind citizens, who have offered to pay the registration fee for several youth to attend the camp this summer. Sponsorships are now available for both the Kids Camp and Teen Camp, which take place from July 8–12 and July 13–19 respectively.
If your child would like to attend camp, but you’re unable to afford to send her or him this year, please confidentially message the Kids Rock Camp Facebook page, or contact Nick Astle on Facebook. Send a message indicating that you’d like a camp sponsorship, and the organizers will register your child for free.
Kids Rock Camp is located at Big Bar Lake Provincial Park near Clinton. The cost for the Kids Camp is $65 per child, and registration for Teen Camp is $115 per teen. You can register your child online today by visiting www.kidsrockcamp.com.
B.C. Communities in Bloom Society fundraiser
The B.C. Communities in Bloom society is hosting a cash raffle fundraiser to support the CiB volunteers who offer up their free time to serve the committee in a variety of ways.
Raffle tickets will be sold for $10 each until September, and the first prize winner takes home $2,000, with second prize scoring $1,000 and third place pocketing $500.
The winning raffle tickets will be drawn on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at 9 a.m. at the Cariboo Lodge. Yvette May, the provincial CiB chair, is the local contact for tickets, so if you’d like to purchase any for the raffle, be sure to contact her by phone at (250) 459-7725 or (250) 212-5506.
