Clinton hockey players practice with 100 Mile House Wranglers

On February 21, young Clinton hockey players had the privilege of being joined by the 100 Mile House Wranglers hockey team in their very own arena at the 47 Mile Sports Complex.

The Wranglers visited our Clinton Recreational Youth Hockey Club players after Clinton’s hockey club attended a Wranglers game in 100 Mile House on February 3. It was a wonderful opportunity for the Clinton kids to watch the players in a live game, then follow up by having the Wranglers practice alongside them in Clinton.

The Wranglers joined the Clinton players to skate together and participate in a few fun games. The event brought many smiles to the faces of players of all ages, with the Wranglers using their sticks upside down for their game with the Clinton youth. After their game together, the Wranglers players then practiced on Clinton ice in preparation for the playoffs.

The Clinton Recreational Youth Hockey Club would like to extend an enormous “thank you” to the 100 Mile House Wranglers, their coaches, and to Greg Akins for this unforgettable experience.

March events reminder

A reminder that on Saturday, March 3, the Volunteer Appreciation/Citizen of the Year event will take place at 6:30 p.m. at Clinton’s Memorial Hall (306 Le Bourdais Avenue) and will include a wine and cheese reception.

Don’t forget: on Wednesday, March 14, the Clinton Seniors’ Association hosts their annual Daffodil Tea at the Memorial Hall, taking place between 1:30 and 3 p.m. Part of the proceeds for this event will be forwarded to the Canadian Cancer Society, so make sure you’re in attendance if you’d like to support a worthy cause in the community.

Red Cross support services available in Clinton

Support Services from the Red Cross will be available for free in Clinton next week, with no appointments necessary. On Wednesday, March 7 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Clinton residents can drop in to the Memorial Hall to talk to someone for help with their Red Cross applications, or with any general questions or concerns they may have.

However, residents do not need to attend a face-to-face session in order to apply for this assistance from the Red Cross. If you are unable to make the March 7 drop-in date, you can also complete the application program online at the Red Cross website (www.redcross.ca), or by calling the Red Cross helpline at 1-855-999-3345.

Canadian author to visit the Clinton Library

Canadian author Elma Schemenauer, who is the author of 77 published books, will visit the Clinton Library (1506 Tingley Street), on Saturday, March 17. The free literary event will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will include a discussion about Canadian history, mystery, and adventure. The event will see Schemenauer explore mysterious stories from her book YesterCanada: Historical Tales of Mystery and Adventure.

The book was published by Borealis Press (Ottawa) in 2016 and includes 30 historical tales that cover Canadian events from the 1200s to the 1900s.

Schemenauer, who was born in Saskatchewan, is a first-generation child of Mennonite immigrants from Russia. She has always been passionate about Canada and its history, and has lived and taught across Canada, though she now lives in Kamloops with her husband, Robert. For those interested in learning more about Canadian history, and enjoying a bit of make-believe in the process, be sure to attend the event on March 17.

Kids’ Easter Egg Hunt returns this April

The Kids’ Easter Egg Hunt will take place on Sunday, April 1 at Reg Conn Park in Clinton, beginning at 1 p.m. The free event, which will be hosted by Clinton’s Recreation Commission, is organized for children aged 12 and under, who are welcome to attend with their families, parents, siblings, and grandparents.

The Easter Bunny will be making a special appearance—rain or shine—and kids will get the opportunity to have their picture taken alongside him. Prizes will also be handed out after the Easter Egg Hunt concludes, with refreshments available for the kids in attendance. Any volunteers who may be interested in helping with the set-up of the event are invited to contact myself, as Recreation Commission Chair, by email at ravenbrookn@hotmail.com.

We hope to see many children and families out to enjoy the Easter Egg Hunt, and are crossing our fingers—and toes—in hopes that the snow will have melted by April!
