Clinton Artisans’ Bazaar is one to remember
The first Clinton Christmas Artisans’ Bazaar, hosted by the Clinton Art and Cultural Society, took place on Saturday, December 2 in the Clinton Legion basement.
Kim Baker-McIlravey, a local resident and a representative for Walnut Grove Travel, was there to talk all things travel, including destination weddings, all-inclusive vacation bookings, and more. She teamed up with a representative from World Financial Group to answer questions, make bookings, and provide travel information.
The Clinton Recreational Youth Hockey Club was also in attendance to raise funds through the sale of hand-made signs and home-made treats. The group is a family orientated, non-competitive hockey club. After selling out of their goods, the club received a generous donation of $700 from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #194. The Ladies Auxiliary also donated $500! Thank you to both groups for their generous contributions to the club.
Other local groups also had tables at the Bazaar, with a variety of hand-made goods, paintings, crafts, and more available for purchase. The first-time event was enjoyed by all, and members of the community are already looking forward to its return next year.
Legion events update
The Children’s Christmas Party, sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #194, took place on Sunday, December 3 with great success, and was complete with crafts, presents, and even elves from the North Pole. The Legion basement was filled with happy children and families there to meet Santa Claus.
On behalf of the community, a huge “thank you” must be extended to Marian Nelson and the members of the Legion for their efforts in putting on yet another event to remember.
Don’t forget: the Legion will also host its Christmas Craft Fair on Saturday, December 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Legion. Soup and sandwiches will be available. For more information, contact Christine at (250) 459-2731.
David Stoddart School news: Winter clothing collection and more
The David Stoddart School student leadership group will be leading two events this December, and students are asking for the Village’s support.
The first event is a “Winter Wear Clothing Collection”. Students will be collecting winter coats, boots, gloves, toques, scarves, and thermal wear for donation to those in need. Donations of items for all ages and clothing can be dropped off at David Stoddart School until December 15. All items collected will be donated to the local food bank for distribution (non-perishable food item donations will also be gladly accepted at the school).
The second event, a “Spaghetti Dinner and Movie”, will be hosted in the gymnasium of David Stoddart School on Wednesday, December 13. Residents are encouraged to attend, and can bring non-perishable food items along with them to be credited as cash: for each non-perishable food item presented, one dollar will be counted towards your admission fee.
Preschoolers (aged five and under) can attend the event for free, while children aged six to 12 and those aged 65 and older will be charged $5 (or five non-perishable food items). Teens and adults (aged 13 to 64) will be charged $8.
All proceeds from the event will go to the local food bank. Dinner begins at 5 p.m. and the movie, Arthur Christmas (2011), will begin at 6 p.m. This is a great way for students, staff, and residents alike to pay it forward during the holiday season, so please support the local food bank and David Stoddart School by coming out for a festive evening with your family.
