Community condolences
As I sat to write my weekly column, I learned that the body of Cache Creek fire chief Clayton Cassidy had been located. For many it will help bring closure.
The closure it will bring does not lessen the loss that will be felt for years. The Cache Creek Fire Department has lost one of their own. He was a husband, father, and brother, and to the Cache Creek community he was a hero. That can not be taken away from him.
To the Cassidy family, members of the Cache Creek Fire Department, and the entire community, I offer condolences and prayers.
Clinton Old Timers’ Tea
There were tears, laughter, and hugs at the Old Timers’ Tea in Clinton on Friday, May 26. The Clinton Memorial Hall was packed as people gathered to reconnect and reminisce. Many former Clinton residents returned this year for the 150th anniversary of the Clinton Annual Ball, and chose to stay (or return) for the Old Timers’ Tea.
This event is put on by dedicated volunteers who do the baking of the sweets, make sandwiches, and keep the tea and coffee flowing.
Rodeo weekend
The Village of Clinton was filled with a festive spirit for the final weekend of May as people gathered for the annual Parade and the May Ball Rodeo. I rode with Mayor Jim Rivett, Councillors Diana Guerin and Wayne Marchant, MLA Jackie Tegart, and Clinton museum member Graham Anderson on the Clinton Museum float.
The problem with being in the parade is you don’t get to see the parade. I’ve been told it was great, so I’ll take other peoples’ word.
I also don’t attend rodeos. It’s just not my thing. I did have occasion to drive by the rodeo grounds on Saturday afternoon, and noted that not only was the parking lot full but people were parked outside the gates alongside the road leading into the rodeo grounds. Looks like they had a full house! Hope everyone who attended or participated had a good time and didn’t get too sunburned!
Health Care Auxiliary yard sale
The Clinton Health Care Auxiliary will host their annual yard sale on Saturday, June 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Clinton Memorial Hall.
They invite you to drop by for plants, baking, miscellaneous “goods”, and lunch. Some tables are still available. If you would like to have a table to sell your wares, contact Elaine Marchant at (250) 459-7085 or Carol Higginbottom at (250) 459-2487 to rent a table.
