Slo-pitch tournament raises $42K for Fraser Valley hospitals

23 teams participate in event for Health Care Foundation

The team Lights Out took first place in the A division of the recent Healthcare Heroes Charity Slo-Pitch Tournament in Abbotsford.

A total of 23 teams raised $42,000 for hospitals in the eastern Fraser Valley during the recent Healthcare Heroes Charity Slo-Pitch Tournament in Abbotsford.

The event, held at Exhibition Park over the Easter long weekend, was hosted by the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation (FVHCF).

First place in the A division went to the Lights Out team, with Gorilla Gang as runners-up.

Top spot in the B division went to Ragrets, with Skittled as runners-up and Growlers receiving honourable mention.

The C division was won by Balls and Dolls, with Smoking Jays as runners-up.

FVHCF fund development coordinator Leslie Gmur thanked the teams; tournament coordinators Teri Vander Wyk, Lisa Dick, Don Fitzgerald and Troy Bernier; and the sponsors, umpires, volunteers and spectators for making the event a success.

"This year's event exceeded our expectations," she said.

The FVHCF supports hospitals and services in Abbotsford, Mission, Chilliwack, Hope and Agassiz.
