Kaylie Kayer of Savona will be competing in a major off-road motorcycle event in San Juan, Argentina from Nov. 6-11.

The International Six Day Enduro (ISDE) is the world’s largest annual off-road motorcycle competition. First held in Carlisle, England in 1913, the ISDE is one of the longest-running events on the calendar of the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), and sees teams from more than 30 countries compete for one of the top prizes in motorsport.

The course length varies depending on the host country, but competitors can expect to travel approximately 1,500 kilometres over the course of six days. The riders not only contend with the length of the race: they must deal with altitude, as well as the strict rules about time allowances and restrictions on mechanical replacements, with riders carrying out their own motorcycle repairs.

The winning team in each of the classes is determined by the total time of all the riders from each nation. The team with the lowest overall time is the winner.

The Canadian World Women’s Trophy Team for the 2023 FIM-ISDE consists of Kayer; Courtney Schmale from Red Deer, Alberta; and Emma Sharpless from Ottawa, Ontario. Owen McKill of Vernon, B.C. will be competing on the Canadian World Men’s Trophy Team, alongside three other riders from Quebec, Nova Scotia, and Alberta.

Kayer had a motocross season to be remembered last year, finishing in third place in the Canadian Western Triple Crown WMX in July.

She then made her way to Walton, Ontario for the 2022 Canadian Amateur Grand National Championship, where her results over three days of racing were enough to get her onto the podium again after she placed third overall.

Kayer also raced in the Pro Class at Walton a couple of days after the championship, with a goal of placing in the top five. She rode aggressively, and finished in fourth place.

Congratulations to Kayer for making the Canadian team; we wish you good luck in November!
