Lytton RCMP responded to 56 calls for service during the period May 11 to 31.
Exceptional poutine
The May Days long weekend in Lytton went off very well and was well attended. There were several instances of liquor being poured out, and a couple of occasions where people were arrested for being intoxicated in public. Those isolated incidents aside, all of the Lytton RCMP attended the venue at various times and stayed to enjoy the music and visit the vendors. The poutine at the Sugar Shack truck was exceptional.
Excessive speeding (one)
On May 12, a vehicle was stopped for excessive speeding on the Trans-Canada. The 2018 Volkswagen Golf was travelling at 46 km/h over the speed limit. The vehicle was seized for seven days, and the 29-year-old Vernon driver charged.
Excessive speeding (two)
On May 26, a motorcycle failed to stop for police when he was observed travelling at 136 km/h in the 70 zone at Lytton. For safety reasons, the motorcycle was not pursued. However, we contacted our partners in Ashcroft, where the Southeast District Traffic Unit was out in force that day. An unmarked SUV observed a motorcycle matching our description driving at 160 km/h in a 100 zone. The Traffic member followed at a distance and confronted the driver at a gas station in Ashcroft. A 25-year-old Maple Ridge man had his motorcycle seized and was charged with excessive speeding.
House fire
On May 30, we responded to a call of a house fire on the west side of the Fraser. To expedite attendance, one of our ATVs was used to get to the home quickly.
By the time we arrived, the occupants and neighbours had the fire on the deck put out.
Damage to police vehicle
On a related matter, on May 14 we responded to a complaint of damage done to our west side police vehicle. Because of the high water and the ferry being out of service, we have an older Tahoe parked on the west side of the foot bridge. Somebody took the opportunity to jump on the hood. It’s unfortunate.
