Organizers of this year’s Clinton May Ball Rodeo on May 27 and 28 report that the event was a great success, with the 30 C. weather bringing out hundreds of spectators to cheer on the cowboys and cowgirls.
The attendance on Saturday, May 27 was one of the best ever. The highlight of the weekend was a new feature event: mini bareback riding, which saw children aged 6–9 and 10–13 compete in two different categories, riding bucking mini ponies for a six-second ride. Cade Allison of Clinton was the overall champion, but every competitor walked away with a prize, thanks to a sponsorship from Munro’s Feed and Supply in Clinton.
A large number of local cowboys and cowgirls entered, which added to the excitement for the crowds.
Local cowboy Colby McCullough took home second place in junior steer riding, winning in a time of 226.98, and Hailey Ambler took second place in the pee wee barrel racing, winning with a time of 124.80.
Appaloosa put on a great performance at the rodeo dance on Saturday evening. The dance floor was full all night, and there were many compliments on how great the music was.
On Sunday there were special guests to help celebrate Clinton, as well as Canada’s 150th birthday. A mechanical bull was set up for kids, and a mini-donut vendor came and set up as well.
The famous Clinton Packhorse Race was also a real crowd-pleaser, with Allan Bolster and Rollie Higginbottom taking home first place both days.
Organizers send a big thank you to all the sponsors who helped put on the Clinton Rodeo: without them, the event would not happen. A big thank you also goes out to tall he volunteers who worked for hours on end to put on the rodeo.
The Clinton Ag will be hosting their Little Britches Rodeo on June 10–11. They are still looking for some volunteers to help out, and sponsors for the Little Britches, so if anyone is willing to help out it would be appreciated. For more information, email kmccullough@integriscu.ca.
