From children to grandparents, artists to naturalists, SilverStar Mountain Museum has an array of engaging events planned this summer.
Look for the SilverStar Museum tent on Main Street in the village close to the ticket office to learn about the educational fun planned.
The rock hounds in the family will love geologist Warner Gruenwald’s mountain tour, The Rocks Beneath Our Feet, on Sunday, July 14. Find out how Silver Star got its name, search for minerals sought by prospectors in the 1800s. Discover old digging sites and learn about the history of the Fire Lookout (gondola pass needed).
For a little of nostalgia, a lot of history and maybe even a bit of local gossip be sure to sign up to follow Norm and Nancy Crerar on a walk around the resort on Sunday, July 21.
"Part of the consortium that brought Silver Star Resort back to life in the '80s they’re ready to regale you with interesting stories of the history and development of our favourite resort," said museum committee member Patti Shales Lefkos, noting to meet in front of the Pinnacles at 10 a.m. for this tour.
Dr. Ward Strong leads an Insect Safari on Saturday, Aug. 3 at Brewer's Pond at 10 a.m. To identify your catch, nets and hand lenses will be provided for a close up examination, before the insect are released back to nature.
Get ready for a gondola ride and some interesting stories on Sunday, Aug. 4 with 33-year veteran of the Ministry of Forests expert Jim Wright.
"Historians will want to attend this fascinating talk," said Wild, as Wright will regale with tales of the Silver Star Fire Lookout and the role that lookouts played in wildfire detection and control over the years.
New this year, Allan Brooks Hike and Dine Event takes place Saturday, Aug. 10. Ride to the top for a history talk with Ginny Hall, followed by a casual lunch at the Red Antler. This event must be booked directly through Allan Brooks Centre at 250-260-4227, ext. 101 or email Manager@ABNC.ca.
"And, no, we haven’t forgotten about the kids," said Wild.
Local artist and author of three children’s books, Hall invites children of all ages to a rock painting session to create a souvenir of Silver Star to take home.

All events are by-donation and start at 10 am unless otherwise noted.
