Thanks to a $15,000 donation from the Ashcroft and District Health Care Auxiliary, residents of Jackson House at the Ashcroft Hospital can enjoy a new, state of the art bathtub.
Amy Bordas, the residential care manager at the site, says that the old one was cracked, which presented an infection control issue. Interior Health provided the other $15,000 necessary to purchase the tub, which reclines and has cushions so that its position can be customized for the comfort of individual users.
It also has a built-in sanitizer, which the previous one lacked. Staff had to sanitize the old tub using spray bottles following each use. “It’s like replacing a Pinto with a Mercedes,” says Bordas, adding that the tub is also used as part of the Community Bathing Program, where care aides bring community members to the hospital and assist them with their bathing.
The tub was on a “wish list” supplied to the Health Care Auxiliary by Bev Grossler of Interior Health. The Auxiliary was also able to donate $600 for the purchase of a ring cutter for the hospital, used to cut rings off patients if required.
