Thursday, Feb. 21 was the occasion of our annual 80+ luncheon, and it was a roaring success: literally. Everyone found someone to talk to, and the volume gradually rose until the food was served, when a great quiet fell over us all!
The food was splendid and in good supply, served by some very jovial and chatty volunteers who kept our plates and cups full, and us laughing.
Thank you to all those who set up the tables, cooked for us, served, and waited on us. The soups were delicious, the sandwiches tasty, and all in good supply.
We finished with dessert, which might be called “the icing on the cake”! Everyone enjoyed the meal and would, I think, have been quite content to sit around and chat, but we had our monthly meeting to deal with, and those who are not members had to leave. Group photographs had been taken of all of us “oldies”, and they will be framed and hung up beside all the previous ones.
The business was dealt with in fine style; all the usual topics were covered and reports were made. As is usual, numbers go up and down in all areas, and everyone seemed pleased with how we are placed.
We actually had three of our men members there, and after the meeting the Bridge tables were set up, as was the table for Hand and Foot. Jigsaw puzzles were also worked on.
The afternoon reminded us of many of our former members who would dress up in “full fig” or “Sunday best” or best dresses for the meeting, and observe all the niceties of the event. We have fond memories of them, and I am sure they must have felt our thoughts coming through the air to them!
Once again, thank you to all the workers and to all who came to help us celebrate. You made our day and it was lovely!
