People leave the starting gate for the eighth annual Ride For RAN at Fairfield Park in Chilliwack on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024.

An annual cycling fundraiser, geared towards everyone from little kids to avid cyclists, will raise money to help some of Chilliwack's most vulnerable people.

Ride For RAN, a fundraiser in support of Ruth and Naomi's Mission, returns to the streets of Chilliwack for its ninth year on Saturday, Sept. 20.

"The Ride for RAN is more than a cycling event – it’s a powerful show of unity and compassion for Chilliwack’s most vulnerable," said Tracy Rahn director of development with Ruth and Naomi's Mission. "Every dollar raised helps provide meals, shelter, and recovery support for individuals and families experiencing homelessness, addiction, and poverty."

The event is open to kids, leisurely riders and avid cyclists, and includes an all-new kids' mini ride (ages six and under), plus an 83-kilometre endurance route, a 40-kilometre classic route, and a 23-kilometres community route. Each route begins and ends at Fairfield Park, with staggered start times beginning at 8 a.m.

Last year, $75,000 was raised and this year's goal is set at $85,000.

Registration is now open with early-bird discounts until Friday, July 11. Money is raised from registration fees, sponsorship, and donations from the public. Registration includes lunch, snack stations along the way, a Ruth and Naomi's athletic bag, and a door prize ticket.

The prize for top fundraiser is a three-night stay at The Cottages in Osoyoos, and the prize for biggest team is a private party for up to 30 people at Farmhouse with a $500 tab and live music. There are also prizes for most fundraised as a team, plus first male and first female cyclists to cross the finish line on the 83-kilometre endurance route.

Live music by Ryan McAllister, a food truck, vendors, activities for kids and more will also be at Ride For RAN. Folks can drop-in to join the fun, but not as a last-minute cyclist. Registration to ride in the fundraiser is open until Sept. 18.

Ride For RAN will support the continuum of care at Ruth and Naomi's, from emergency shelters to permanent housing, from addiction recovery to outreach work. Funds allow them to provide essential services, meals, and housing solutions to those in need.

"It’s a chance for the community to come together, have fun, and ride with purpose – knowing that every pedal stroke brings hope and healing closer to home," Rahn said.
