Crowds flood new outdoor Vernon pool to capacity

Opening weekend of Vernon's new Lakeview Wading Pool was a splash

Opening weekend of Vernon's new Lakeview Wading Pool was a splash.

The new outdoor facility, including spray park, was so full in fact that it was maxed out at one point.

"Saturday was our busiest day of the weekend and the gates had to be closed temporarily around 4 p.m. when the facility reached its capacity at 120 swimmers," said Josh Winquist, city of Vernon communications officer. "It was reopened once a few swimmers left and lifeguards were able to get a break."

Parents of children who are weak swimmers or who are under six years old are reminded to come prepared to join their child in the pool.

"Everyone on deck is counted as an occupant, which limits the number of people we can let in the pool," said Winquist, adding the city received a lot of positive feedback.

The pool officially opened Friday, June 28 and is open daily from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 2 to 6 p.m.

The pool does close for half an hour daily so staff can clean the facility.
