What a wonderful set of events we’ve had in Spences Bridge! A huge thank you to all who made them possible!
Firstly, the tree lighting event at the Lookout on December 1 was a lovely time. Thanks to Dwayne Rourke and Paul Miller for getting the tree, and Carol Madden for supplying the power. There was a good turnout, and we roasted hotdogs, sang carols, visited, and lit the tree!
December 2 saw a small but lively group at the Christmas Bazaar. Given the low turnout, it’s quite amazing that we still raised more than $1,700! These funds will assist in maintaining the hall, paying for insurance and utilities, etc. Thanks to all the vendors, shoppers, volunteers, and all those who made such generous donations. The auction was lots of fun, with plenty of good-hearted bidding wars. Thanks to Dwayne for auctioneering!
The raffle proceeds are a big part of the Bazaar fundraiser, and we couldn’t do it without the support of the businesses and individuals who donated such wonderful prizes. Thanks so much to Echo Valley Ranch (won by Autumn Walkem), Sundance Guest Ranch (Judith Urquhart), The Packing House (yours truly: no, it wasn’t fixed!), and the Wyatt-Purdens (Laurie Kingston).
Attendance at the annual Ham and Turkey Bingo was also not the usual crowd. Of course, that meant that the odds were in your favour; one lucky individual won three times! Still, despite the turnout, the bingo turned a profit, and the money raised will help us fund events like the community Christmas party.
Said party was on December 10. This event was co-hosted by the Spences Bridge Community Club (SBCC) and Cook’s Ferry Band, and was held at the Cook’s Ferry gym, which barely held everyone! It was an amazing turnout, and it’s so great to see the whole community sharing a festive meal and visiting with each other.
Santa made an appearance, and of course was the most popular person there: thanks, Santa! Thanks also to Cook’s Ferry for providing the facility and all that that entails, and to all the cooks for the delicious food!
I’m sorry to have to announce that there will not be a New Year’s dance this year. I hope that next year we will have the volunteer manpower to put something on. So, hint hint: if you want stuff to happen in Spences Bridge, please consider getting involved!
The Desert Daze planning committee met on December 7 over a lovely potluck supper. We are planning wonderful things for DD ‘18, and anyone wishing to get involved on the committee level should let me know.
The next Bingo is on January 15, with the doors opening at 5:30 p.m. Hope to see you there supporting the SBCC!
Our next regular meeting will be held on January 10 at Clemes Hall at 7 p.m. New members are always welcome.
