It seems we haven’t been getting the usual December weather, thus allowing folks to get out and around and attend all the various holiday events. Now don’t yell at me, but it would be nice to have a bit of winter weather for the kiddies to toboggan and skate outside, and of course have a wee bit of the white stuff Christmas day.
Although not particularly well attended, our Christmas bazaar managed to almost raise the targeted amount! Thanks to all who donated, volunteered, and shopped! Thanks to IDA Pharmacy, Fields, Nature’s Gifts, and Home Hardware for their contributions and support!
We had a nice turnout for the Community Christmas tree lighting. It was a little chilly that evening, but the fire and friendship kept us warm! Thanks so much to Paul Miller for all his work getting it ready for us, and to Carol Madden for the power!
Turkey bingo was fun, even if I didn’t win a turkey! We had a pretty good turnout and raised some funds! Thanks to the Packing House for the door prize donation, and all the volunteers for their help.
The annual Spences Bridge Christmas party must be one of the most well attended events of the season. The Cook’s Ferry gym was absolutely full, and so was everyone when they left! A great feast, a visit from Santa, and lots of visiting all made for a great time. Thanks to Cook’s Ferry for providing the venue, and to everyone who helped to make this such a successful event.
December 21 is the winter solstice, the longest night of the year, after which the days will begin to lengthen. We’re celebrating the solstice by gathering at Murray Creek Falls to set off some fireworks, roast some hot dogs, and have some chili and hot chocolate. The last time we did this the falls were all ice and the fireworks in front of the frozen falls were a delight to behold. We called it Fire and Ice; it looks like this year it might be Water and Ice, but will still be a delight!
Take a break from the Christmas hustle and bustle of preparations and join us at 5 p.m. at the base of the falls. Bundle up, bring a flashlight, and bring some goodies to share around the fire.
We have booked The Conscientious Objectors to play at our New Year’s Eve dance at Clemes Hall, and it should be a great night of dancing with these guys. They are not strangers to Spences Bridge, as they played Desert Daze this past summer. There will be an all-night buffet snack table, a bar, noisemakers, and bubbly at midnight, and all for $20. Advance ticket sales only, available at the Post Office, The Log Cabin Pub, and Ashcroft Bakery. The Inn next door will be open and has rooms available, and will be offering a New Year’s Day brunch, so no excuse for you out-of-towners!
Our regular bingo will resume in January on the first and third Mondays, so come to Clemes Hall for some bingo fun. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and you can count on some good supper available at the concession!
Soup Day Tuesday will also resume in January; the first one will be Jan.8. Come to the hall at noon to enjoy some homemade soup and some company. Activities and workshops to follow; stay tuned, and check out the Spences Bridge Community Club Facebook page to see what’s on.
Regular SBCC meetings continue on the second Wednesday of the month, Jan.9 being the next one. Join us at 7 p.m. at the hall. Everyone welcome.
