I really like these bright crisp sunny days: enjoy them while we can, as the snow will soon be flying!
As always, there is plenty to keep the winter blues away. December is a busy month, so mark your calendars to make sure you don’t miss out on the wonderful community events!
First up is the Christmas bazaar. This is the Spences Bridge Community Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and we count on it to keep Clemes Hall up and running, so please plan on attending and supporting us. On Saturday, Dec. 1 from 3 to 6 p.m. you’ll find baking, crafts, secondhand treasures, raffles, and an auction, and plan on getting supper at the concession. Admission is by Christmas hamper food donation.
It’s a tradition now: the Christmas tree lighting at the Look Out. A community tree being lit up, caroling, a wiener roast, and hot chocolate all sounds like a great way to get into the Christmas spirit. Join us at 5 p.m. on Dec. 5 for this fun community get-together.
Another Christmas tradition in Spences Bridge is the ham and turkey bingo. This event brings out even those who don’t regularly play. Try your hand at winning a turkey or ham for the holidays! There will also be door prizes, and something tasty to eat for supper at the concession; doors open at 5:30 p.m. Once again, all funds go to support the SBCC to provide events and activities for the entire community.
Sunday, Dec. 16 has been set for the Town Christmas party: a great partnership between the SBCC and Cook’s Ferry that sees the two groups co-host a luncheon. The turkey and ham are provided, and everyone is asked to please bring a veggie dish or a dessert to share. Santa will be there too! This is one of those wonderful opportunities to visit with everybody, and it all starts at 11:30 a.m.
As there is so much going on, Soup Day is taking a break for December. We’ve had lots of fun sewing grocery bags, making paper mache, and ink-stamping Christmas cards. Jan. 8 will see us back at it, with painting as our activity. Please join us at Clemes Hall at noon to share a bowl of soup and a few laughs, and then stay for the fun activity.
We’re doing New Year’s! Plan to come to the Hall on New Year’s Eve for dancing, a midnight countdown, noisemakers, and champagne. We’re still working out the details, so stay tuned!
The Clemes Hall restoration project is well underway. The SBCC was successful in their grant application to the Thompson-Nicola Regional District and Northern Development Initiative Trust, which means we have been approved for up to $55,000 for much-needed renovations. Thanks to our TNRD Director Steve Rice for championing this project for us.
Paul Miller is the contractor, and he has already put in the new windows; that alone has transformed the hall by allowing the natural light back in! However, the place is a construction zone, so please excuse the mess as we go ahead with all the various activities there.
Our regular meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at Clemes Hall. Everyone is welcome, and encouraged to attend. Help make Spences Bridge the vibrant, active community where we all want to live!
