The Laichwiltach Family Life Society is hosting National Indigenous Peoples Day in downtown Campbell River this Saturday (June 21).
This national celebration of Indigenous culture and communities will start with a five-kilometre walk-run from Kwakiutl District Health building to the Tyee Spit and back.
The opening ceremony kicks off at 10 a.m., with speeches and youth drumming at the Kwanwatsi Big House. At 10:45 a.m., there will be a Metis Jigger followed by dance groups and honouring. Then there’s a march to Spirit Square at 11:45 a.m.
At noon, alongside lunch, there will be a bounce rama for kids, face painting, craft sales, and kids games.
Live entertainment at Spirit Square runs from noon to 4:30 p.m. and will feature Garett Willie, Ron Peacey, Greg Wells, Larry Hanson, Cory Wilcox, among others.
