More than 50,000 people packed the waterfront for this year’s White Rock’s Canada Day by the Bay event on July 1.
That’s a 30 per cent increase in attendance over the 2024 celebration, according to White Rock recreation and culture director John Woolgar.
Highlights of the event, presented by CUPE 718, included a headline performance by a Guess Who tribute band, featuring Colin Wiebe, formerly of the Randy Bachman Band, and a set by local favourite Richard Tichelman.
Also very well attended was the Canada Day vendor marketplace, featuring more than 50 booths/tables along the promenade, Woolgar said.
“The evening concluded with a 15-minute fireworks display—sponsored by Thrifty Foods—which drew enthusiastic crowds to cap off the day’s events,” Woolgar noted.
“New this year were evening road closures on Marine Drive to support a safer experience for attendees, and the introduction of the Kids Zone Stage, which featured family entertainment, face painting, and arts and crafts."
In opening the day at Memorial Park, Mayor Megan Knight announced recipients of the Outstanding Canadians on the Peninsula Awards: Joan Dewinetz, a registered nurse and dedicated community volunteer; Manjit Litt, a businessman and community philanthropist; and Cindy Walker, a long-time realtor and charitable fundraiser.
