This year the Ashcroft outdoor swimming pool will have some new additions, some lost traditions, and a brand new summer schedule for everyone to enjoy come June 3.

For the first time in five years, a hot tub will be returning to the pool. For years it was delayed due to pool closures during the pandemic.

Pool supervisor Nandini Villeneuve says there is potential to have a free ice cream day despite scrapping the Saturday theme nights due to being short staffed.

“It’s sad, but unfortunately, due to the lack of staff,” said Villeneuve.

She says she had to cancel some of the previous events because of the shortage of certified lifeguards.

In an effort to attract lifeguards, Villeneuve said the pool is offering free classes for the local youth to take life guarding courses needed to complete their lifeguard certification.

The bronze cross and bronze medallion courses will happen July 4-14 at the pool. Those who take the program have the potential for summer employment, granted they complete their lifeguard certification. Anyone interested in taking the course must be 13 years or older.

Programs such as aqua fit, lane swim, mom and tot swim and school swims in addition to public swims will keep the pool hopping this summer.

Public swim times in June will be from 3 p.m. -to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

On Saturdays the pool will be open for public swimming from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and again from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., with lane swimming to following from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Sundays, public swimming will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and again from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and lane swimming from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The pool can also be rented out on Sundays for events and parties. For more information on scheduling, prices, and bookings, click here on their website or contact the pool for more details.
