50/50 draw at Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair supports youth

Money used to award scholarships to high school students

Get your 50/50 tickets at rodeo and support a good cause at the same time.

That’s Rick Hugh’s message to rodeo- and fair-goers this year.

Hugh, 1st vice-president of the Cloverdale Rodeo and Exhibition Association, and past chair of Cloverdale Rodeo Youth Initiative Foundation (CRYIF), said the draw is an integral piece of the fundraising pie for the foundation.

CRYIF supports students in the community by raising money to award scholarships and by providing opportunities for young people to gain experience through volunteering, noted Hugh.

“The intent of our scholarships is to assist community minded youth in the pursuit of their post-secondary education and career goals,” he added. “ What sets (us) apart from many other scholarship programs is that we focus more on service to school and community than we do on GPA.”

Their biggest way to raise cash is with their 50/50 draw held over Rodeo Weekend.

"We had a good day last year with her 50/50,” Hugh said. "This year we've applied for a different gaming license. With that license, we have the potential to raise a lot more money."

Even though the draw is already up an running, Hugh said the interest doesn't really ramp up until Rodeo Weekend.

The winner will be drawn during the final rodeo performance on Monday afternoon (May 19). Last year's winner took home more than $22K.

"The young girl that won last year ... It was going to make a significant difference in her life."

Hugh also noted all 50/50 proceeds are used for scholarship funds for kids. The rodeo doesn't take any money from the draw.

The Foundation's 50/50 is now live. A link can be found at cloverdalerodeo.rafflenexus.com or visit cloverdalerodeo.com to find a link for tickets.
